The Saga of the 37 Pumpkins - Installment No. 22 - Pumpkin Coconut Milk Ice Cream

Patch had joined the group of pumpkins. They were still carrying their little pieces of junk. They were still singing.

Mary's friend was sliding beside him. "My name is Stalk," she said over the sound of her companions' song, proffering her stalk.

"Are you trying to shake my hand?" Patch remembered what the young man of hours prior had called the gesture.

"Yes, I am. We can call it a stalk, though, if you like." Her stalk remained outstretched. "Just touch mine and move it up and down."

This was very awkward. Patch was not accustomed to participating in such strange customs.

"Am I doing it right?" he asked, his seeds quivering just a little bit.

Stalk laughed. "Yes, you're doing it right. You don't have to worry about doing it correctly, though. It's just one of the silly things that we do in an effort to be more like the keepers."

"Can you explain why you try to be like them? Isn't being a pumpkin good enough?"

The other pumpkins reached a high note.

Stalk leaned closer. "I don't know why they do it," she whispered. "I only associate with these nutcases because I'm writing a book on their kind. Oh look, there is another one laughing all the way to the chopping block."

Pumpkin Coconut Milk Ice Cream

Ingredients:

  • 13.5 oz coconut milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2-4 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Dash of ground cloves
  • 1 cup pureed pumpkin

Instructions:

Mix sugar and milk in a small bowl and microwave for 50 seconds or until the granules have dissolved and the mixture is syrupy. Then dump the syrup into a blender, along with all of the other ingredients. Blend until all ingredients are combined, then transfer the mixture to a plastic lidded container, and freeze.
