The Saga of the 37 Pumpkins- Installment 15 - Pumpkin Fritters

Patch slid away, the story of his life running through his mind. He recalled the days in the pumpkin patch, when his happy family had surrounded him. He remembered when the air was hot and water droplets sprinkled down from the sky, quenching his thirst. That thirst had been so important in those delicious, warm days.

He was seldom thirsty anymore.

Water had been the most important thing in the old world. The pumpkins talked about it, thought about it, loved it. It was what kept them alive, and because they loved life, they loved water, too. Water had a treasured gift when it was available in abundance. Now there was no water at all, and no one thirsted or even really thought about its absence.

In fact, they didn't really seem to want anything at all. Their fear was not prompted by a desire to live. Fear, instead of being a byproduct of life, had become the essence of it.

One of the chanting girls was being toted away whilst spewing high-pitched shouts of glee. Her jubilant shouts made Patch's seeds flip.

"I was chosen, I was chosen! Oh, don't worry, Pie! You'll be chosen, too, someday- we'll see one another soon- maybe we'll be baked together!"

Pumpkin Fritters


Ingredients:


  • 2 cups pureed pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp peanut oil (or other oil that you like)


Instructions:

Mix ingredients through egg in a small-medium bowl.

Heat the oil in a skillet on medium-high heat.

Spoon the pumpkin mixture into the pan, and cook until golden brown on both sides.

Serve with a liberal sprinkle of powdered sugar.
